Summer Reading Letter from K-5 Teachers

Dear Parents,

The Norwood Elementary School Librarians and the Children’s Librarians from the Morrill Memorial Library have designed this reading list to keep your child reading throughout the summer. Parents understand the importance of reading for children during the summer.

This list provides a sample of popular authors and titles that will keep your child excited about reading; however, you can also read books that are not on a list. Your public librarian can help your child locate books that are at the right reading level and are of interest to your child. The public library is a member of the Minuteman Library Network. Titles can be requested from the other libraries. Downloadable materials are available through library apps Overdrive and Hoopla. The reading list is available online at the school library website as well as the public library website: www.norwoodlibrary.org

The Morrill Memorial library runs a summer reading program, “Universe of Stories”. The program is open to preschoolers through 8th grade students. The program starts June 24th and ends August 31st. At the library, children can measure their reading through the library’s “Read and Bead” program by earning beads for a necklace based on the amount of time they have read. Prizes will be raffled off! The public library will also offer an online tracking program called Beantack to assist if families would like to keep reading records. Come to the library and find out about many summer activities for children! Please visit the Morrill Memorial Library for more information or visit www.norwoodlibrary.org

Sincerely,

The Norwood Elementary Librarians: Donna Miller, Aaron Reuland, Annmarie Higgins, and Christine Duffy

The Morrill Memorial Library Children’s Librarians: Kate Tigue, Nicole Guerra-Coon, and Jane Bradley
