Summer Reading Letter from Morrill Memorial Library

Dear Parents,

The Norwood Elementary School Librarians and the Children’s Librarians from the Morrill Memorial Library have designed this reading list to keep your child reading throughout the summer.  Parents understand how important it is that their children continue to read during the summer but they may have difficulty finding the right books to inspire their children.  This list provides a sample of popular authors and titles that will keep your child excited about reading.  Your public librarian can help your child locate books that are at the right reading level and are of interest to your child, so don’t hesitate to come in and ask for help.  The public library is a member of the Minuteman Library Network which is a consortium of 43 libraries.  Titles can be requested for you from other libraries in the network.  Downloadable materials are available through the Digital Media Catalog and Hoopla.

The reading list is available online at the school library website as well as the public library website:  www.norwoodlibrary.org

The public library runs a summer reading program.  The program is open to preschoolers through 8th grade.  “Libraries Rock” is this summer’s theme.  Sign up starts June 18th, the program starts June 25th and ends August 24th.  Libraries Rock! Come down to the library to learn how to measure your reading through our Brag Tag beading system.  Reading Bingo sheets will be offered during the month of July and August.  Enter our weekly “Raffles for Readers” drawing when you visit.  The public library will also offer our online Wandoo Reader is your child would like to keep a record of you of their reading.  There are many activities planned.  Here are a few!

  • Uke Can Do It: Kids Play the Ukulele July 9
  • Crafts every Wednesday morning starting July 11
  • Animal World Experience July 12
  • Quishy Circuits July 26
  • Rocket Building Workshop July 26

Please visit your public library for more information or visit www.norwoodlibrary.org

Sincerely,
The Norwood Elementary Librarians:  Donna Miller, Aaron Reuland, Lora E. Roberts and Annmarie Higgins
