Writing Instruction

Students receive direct instruction through a  multisensory systematic approach designed to model the process of writing with the use of many tools, including visuals and graphic organizers. I co-teach this class with Mrs. Naughton, our speech-language pathologist.

We use our newly adopted curriculum for written expression by the creators of Project Read entitled Framing Your Thoughts for the foundation of writing instruction in the language based classroom. This is a systematic multisensory instructional curriculum that directly teaches the fundamentals of writing, including sentence structure, grammar, and paragraph development. The students really enjoy these concrete lessons. It is exciting to see their writing skills improve and take flight!

Writing instruction can also include but is not limited to:

- support with general education assignments and grade level projects

-journal writing

-literature responses

-writing to prompts

-book reports

-essay writing

-Six Traits lessons (ideas, organization, voice, sentence fluency, word choice, conventions)

-poetry

-descriptive writing

-persuasive writing

-expository writing

-narrative writing

-story format
