Elementary Honors Chorus

Honor Chorus is for 5th graders by audition who love to sing and wish to make a serious after school commitment to singing in a choral ensemble. The audition is given by the general music teachers. It is an expectation that conduct will be excellent at all rehearsals.

Please consider this commitment carefully. Make sure that you will be able to ensure that you can pick up your child after rehearsal on time and that your child will be able to participate in all performances. if your child also has a strong interest in sports, please understand that your child will be expected to honor his or her commitment to the chorus in the Spring when our concert schedule begins.

Honor Chorus has a heavy performance schedule in the Spring, The schedule will be shared at the mandatory organizational meeting for parents and guardians. Permission slips for the singers must be in before this meeting. Honor Chorus singers are expected to be at each and every rehearsal and performance except in case of illness of emergency. An absence must be reported to the director. Email is the preferred form of notification.

If there is a serious schedule conflict, the director should be notified 2 weeks in advance.

March 6, 2013 Update

Elementary Honor Chorus Rehearsal and Performance Dates 2012-2013

Dear Elementary Honor Chorus Parents and Guardians:

Here is an important update with regard to concert dates and special rehearsals and some changes. Concert season is coming up quickly, so please take a moment to review this with your singer and your family calendar in hand.

Please note performance dates and call times in the spring Honor Chorus singers are expected to be at all rehearsals and concerts. Please contact the Director a minimum of 2 weeks in advance if there is a serious scheduling conflict.

Please note the changes in schedule, below:

Due to scheduling issues at the HS and CMS, our “Choral Classic” concert on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, has been cancelled.

Our new Choral Classic date is Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Norwood High School.

Call time is 6 p.m. in the auditorium in concert dress.

Rehearsals continue to be on Wednesdays 3:15-4:45pm in the Oldham Music Room except for the

Dress Rehearsal on March 13, 2013 at Norwood High School in the auditorium 3:15-4:45.

I would like to start the rehearsal promptly at 3:15, so if you can arrive a little earlier, that would be terrific. Please make sure to escort your child to the auditorium as the high school is large.

A friendly reminder to please pick up your children promptly at 4:45.

Chaperones: For the parents and guardians interested and available to chaperone, and have been coried please email me letting me know which concerts dates you may be available. MICCA is very busy, and I would rather have more than fewer people. Please note that you must be coried to be a chaperone, and that Coris take time to process. You can file a cori at your child's school or with me at the Oldham. I need a completed cori form and a copy of your MA driver's license.

Chaperones are needed for March 13, March 26, April 5, April 11 and April 28.

Epi-pen training for chaperones will be held on Tuesday, March 19th, 5pm at the high school auditorium with Jill Driscoll, Head Nurse, and I would love to have some chaperones attend that as well. Please email me if you are available for that training. Mrs. Driscoll is also happy to take a few minutes to train chaperones on a Wednesday at the Oldham as well.

Pizza Party- Please have your children send in $5 for a pizza party. I am looking for a few parents to coordinate this as well. Please contact me if you are interested. The singers have a Great Time at this!

Rehearsal Schedule

*13 Dress Rehearsal at the HS auditorium. (No concert clothes needed, but singers should have them by now). Chaperones needed. Please make sure your child connects with Ms. Cook or a chaperone inside rather than entering the HS alone.

*20 rehearsal at Oldham with guest clinician Conductor Mr. David Hodgkins

and accompanist Mrs. Betsy Smentek

*26 Choral Classic Concert at the HS --(Rescheduled from March 19 Choral Classic) Choral Classic cost - $5.

3 rehearsal last rehearsal before MICCA

5, Friday MICCA

Call 4pm at NHS in concert clothes; meet in cafeteria. Adjudication will be anywhere from 4:45 on depending on how quickly things are moving.

MICCA adjudication will be in NHS auditorium, audience welcome. Cost of armband lets you in all 3 days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday and at Band MICCA as well.

10 rehearsal for Elementary Honor Concert, Accompanist present

*11 Thursday Elementary Honor Concert, NHS. 6pm call in the Chorus room, 7pm concert. FREE.

Vacation

24 rehearsal (accompanist)

28 SUNDAY BIG SING date: Saint Mark's School, Southborough, Concert, 3-5:30.

We will leave at 1:45pm from the Oldham parking lot. Singers should bring a bag lunch/snack. Concert 3-4:30 (cost $1). Buses will leave immediately after concert.

Buses should arrive at the Oldham at 5:15.

May 1 No Rehearsal

May 8 sing, discuss adjudications, etc., listen to our performances if we have recordings, etc.
