Library Book Care and Policies

Book selection and responsibility for Borrowed Library Materials

Students in grades 2-5 are allowed two books per week and may borrow a magazine as one of their choices. They are expected to choose one book that is "Just Right" for them at their individual reading level. Their second book can be a more difficult or easier book of their choice. First grade students borrow one book per week from the fiction room but have access to easier non-fiction books as well.

Each student is responsible for taking care of his/her borrowed library books and magazines. We expect students to keep these materials in a dry, clean, safe place, away from pets, smaller children, food and drink. If students carry water bottles in their backpacks they should bring a plastic bag in on library days to place their book(s) in, to protect them from possible leaks and spills. Students are responsible for returning their books each week when they visit the library.

If books become damaged or are lost, students and their families are responsible for replacing the book with the exact book title and type (hardcover or paperback) or paying for the cost of replacing the book by sending in a check made payable to the Balch PTO or Willett PTO. A notice will be mailed home, listing the book title(s) and replacement cost.

Thank you for helping your children to be responsible library users!
