Organizational Skills:

Students will improve the organization of their time and materials, which may include:

• planning and organizing projects
• breaking down long-term assignments
• binder organization
•  maintaining a complete and accurate agenda
• models to follow (i.e. completed teacher notes, ideas for projects/assignments)
• teacher check-ins for long-term projects
• graphic organizers for assignments and projects
• checklists for completing assignments

Reading Strategies:

Students will learn and apply reading strategies as they access their classroom materials, which may include:

• textbook reading (i.e. previewing the text by reading the headings, captions, bolded words)
• vocabulary development
• identifying story elements
• locating themes
• finding quotes to support key points
• using active reading strategies (i.e. questioning, inferring, making connections

Writing Support:

Students will develop their written expression skills. Topics vary depending on the needs of the individual students, which may include:

• creating topic sentences and concluding sentences
• developing paragraphs
• supporting ideas with details or  evidence
• improving word choice and vocabulary
• using transition words or phrases
• revising/editing work

Study Strategies:

Students will learn strategies for improving homework quality, increasing homework completion, and developing study strategies, which may include:

• clarifying directions
• reviewing assignment expectations and due dates
• organizing study materials
• test-taking strategies
• using www.quizlet.com to review key vocabulary terms and concepts from all classes

Independent Learning Skills:

Students will understand their own learning style and identify strategies that support their learning, which may include:

• problem-solving when a task cannot be easily completed
• strategies for approaching teachers for extra help; asking questions; advocating for themselves
