Cleveland Elementary School News
Actor, director, playwright, mime and teacher Dave Zucker visited the Cleveland School armed with poetry and music. The "Poetry in Motion" performer entertained students with an array of poems. Tucker urged students to find the poetry inside themselves and all around their world.
As part of the Cleveland School's Share-A-Book program featuring "Because of Winn Dixie", the PTA sponsored a visit by an MSPCA representative to talk to students about Animal Care, Shelters and Pet Adoption. Students also participated in a month-long Animal Shelter Wish List program and donated items for the Noble Family Animal Care and Adoption Center and the Nevins Farm and Equine Center. The Wish List drive was spear headed by the Student Council.
The Fourth Grade hosted its Annual March Madness Spelling Bee. Each classroom forwarded a team of spellers to compete in the Final. The Barry Dominators aka JEMS emerged victorious over the Kilduff Space Unicorns and the Wesley Superior Skittles. Click on School Events to view pictures.

The Cleveland kicked off Read Across America this month to celebrate and engage in reading. Will our students be able to meet the 110,000 minutes school-wide goal by the last day of March? Every classroom is also being asked to promote movement by participating in interactive videos that feature running, stretching, dancing and calming exercises. Make sure your child is a Reading Champ and reads every day.
As part of the Cleveland School's community outreach initiative, our Fourth Grade students made Valentine cards, wrote poems and drew illustrations for residents of Charlwell House Nursing Home and Skilled Nursing Facility in Norwood. The cards were delivered on Valentine's Day.
The Cleveland School kicked off its Share A Book program on Thursday. All classroom teachers will be reading aloud Kate DiCamillo's "Because of Winn-Dixie" over the next few weeks. Staff members will also be reading the book.

Historical Performer Sheryl Faye presented a one-woman show on Helen Keller. All our students learned about the life of Helen Keller, who as a young child lost her sight and hearing. With help from her teacher, Annie Sullivan, Keller became a successful writer, speaker and leader. Faye acted in character during the whole performance with help from a voice-over. GREETINGS FROM THE CLEVELAND STAFF!
Runners and walkers of all ages participated in the Sixth Annual Miles for Liam on Saturday, October 24th. The 5K walk/run was sponsored by the Liam's L.E.E.P. foundation to increase awareness and move to end Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The foundation is in honor of Liam, one of our Cleveland students.

WCVB Channel Five Meteorologist Danielle Vollmar visited the Fifth Grade to talk about all things weather. In addition to her presentation, Vollmar recorded the students for Channel Five's weekly Wake Up Call. Click here for photos and the video link.
On September 11th, the Cleveland School joined together outside to sing "The Star Spangled Banner". The National Anthem Sing-A-Long program invited students to learn the history behind the country's anthem and participate in a nationwide Sing-A-Long at 1:00 p.m. (EST)

Students donated stacks and bags of coins for Autism Awareness. The Cleveland raised over $600.00.
The Cleveland wrapped up its Share-A-Book program with an all-school assembly celebrating "The Only and Only Ivan" and "Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Gorilla" both by Katherine Applegate. Click here for photographs.
