NHS Principal's Update - June 2016

NHS Principal's Update - June 2016

Hello Mustang families,

We are slowly but certainly approaching the end of our school year, and I don't know if the students or the teachers are more excited. We had a wonderful graduation ceremony last week, and were happy to meet some of our rising 9th graders on Friday for Step Up Day. A special thanks to Norwood's Mustang Mentors for showing the students around!

Final Exams - Please refer to the schedule for final exams which begin on Wednesday, June 15th. Final grades will be available by the end of business on June 21st. School counselors are available until June 24th. Make up exams on June 21st are by appointment only.

Fall Sports Information Night - On Monday June 13th, the athletic department is hosting a fall sports information night for students and parents at 7pm in the NHS auditorium. The athletic director and fall coaching staff will be available to answer questions and provide information on fall sports offerings.

Host Families Needed - The Foreign Language Department is seeking host families for 20-25 French students who will be visiting Norwood between October 13-October 27, 2016. Students speak English, come with their own spending money and take field trips 3 days a week. They attend school with their host student 2 days a week. Families are responsible for their exchange student at night and on weekends. To sign up, go to: www.carousel-tours.com/applications.html

The Global Citizenship Club is seeking 30 students to work with 150 Chinese students from July 13-23. The Chinese students are high school age and will be boarding at Stonehill College for their stay. NHS students would travel with the Chinese students on a variety of excursions in and around Boston to serve as conversation partners. On July 14,15, and 18th, Norwood High School will be hosting the students for a variety of events. On July 15th, there is an academic competition partnering Chinese students with American students.

In order for this to be successful, we are looking for 60 NHS students to participate. Again, if interested please contact Cindy Derrane.

For GCP students this 10 day experience completes the travel requirement for the certificate program.

Additional Information to come later this month about summer school and summer office hours.
