NHS Principal's Update for October 2016

NHS Principal's Update for October 2016

A message from NORWOOD HIGH SCHOOL

Parent Conferences

On Thursday October 13th (last names A-K)  and Wednesday October 19th (last names L-Z) we will hold parent conferences with teachers from 6:15-8:15pm. For those new to our conferences, please wait in line outside of each teacher’s classroom for them to become available.

French Exchange Students

Our new friends from France arrive Thursday evening in front of the school! Thank you again for all of the families who are hosting and who have offered to help. The students will be in classes at NHS and visiting sites throughout New England.

Craft Affair

This year’s Craft Affair at Norwood will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Norwood High School. The primary goal of the Craft Affair is to raise money for the Post Prom Party. However, the Craft Affair usually generates additional monies that the Craft Affair Committee allocates to teams, clubs, and groups at NHS that help out at the event.

PSAT (Practice SAT) - Wednesday, October 19th during school hours

The PSAT will be administered to all grade 10 and 11 students on 10/19, free of charge. The test will go approximately from 7:45-11:30am. Students should arrive on time and bring a few #2 pencils and a calculator. All students received a PSAT study guide last week. Following the exam, there will be shortened classes for the remainder of the day.

Grade 9 & 12 students will engage in activities around building the culture and community of the school, including  guest speaker Cory Palazzi, who many of you remember from last spring’s Hidden in Plain Sight. Cory Palazzi and Lisa/Dave Gonsalves(Cory’s parents), help educate students about addiction and encouraging the removal of the stigma about addiction through a real life family story. They will share their journey about their son Cory who went from being an all star student and athlete in high school to a college student who developed an addiction to prescription drugs which in turn created his addiction to heroin. This family hopes by sharing their story it will make a difference in someone else's life and prevent any other family from going through this trying epidemic our nation is facing.

Holland Day, a pioneer of American Fine Art Photography.  The art display is free and open to the public Nov 5 and 6 from 1-3pm.  The Day House is located at 93 Day St, Norwood.

Friends of the Visual Arts (FoVA) Pizzeria Uno's Fundraiser Nov 18

The Global Citizenship Club is holding a fundraiser from Oct. 11-Nov. 11. Make a $5 donation and your student's name will be placed on a Mustang to be displayed on a wall outside the Dining Hall. On November 18th,  we will randomly select 2 donors and their names will be placed on street signs--One in the front driveway and one in the rear driveway. Their names will remain in place until June at which time the street signs will be gifted to the students. We will repeat the fundraiser in June for new names to be displayed for the first semester of the 2016-2017 school year! You can make your donation on either of the parent conference nights at NHS or by dropping money off at NHS in the main office-attn: GCP.

Funds raised will go towards supporting the many student projects and activities of our GCP students! As always, thank you in advance for your support.

If you have questions, please call Cindy Derrane or Jennifer Orlinski at NHS.
