Keyboarding

You may be wondering, "why do I need to learn to type?" The answer is that if you learn to type properly you can save time. As you get older most teachers expect you to type your assignments. The days of handwriting papers is behind you. Knowing how to keyboard properly will help you finish your work faster. To help you learn how to type we use a program called Typing Time from South-Western Keyboarding. You will learn to type using the qwerty method, starting with the home row keys (asdfjkl;) and progressing to all the other letters on the keyboard. As you learn to type properly you will notice your speed increase dramatically.

If you are a two-finger hunt and peck typist, you may want to practice your typing at home. Check out the link on the right for websites that will help you get more practice. Make sure you use two hands and always keep your fingers on the homerow. It's important you learn which finger to use for each key.

Get extra keyboarding practice at home by trying some of the links below. Remember:

  1. Proper Body Posture.
  2. Always use the home row.
  3. Always use both hands.
  4. Don't look at the keyboard. You only cheat yourself.
