Toys and Games to Promote Language Development
Families often ask me, especially around the Holidays, for ideas about what kinds of toys are out there that can help children practice their language skills. Here are a few toys that I like to use with my students as well as a list of skills these toys can target.
My Favorites:
- Melissa and Doug Reusable Sticker Scenes: These are excellent for addressing vocabulary, following directions, sentence generation, understanding prepositions, etc. (These can be purchased almost anywhere toys are sold--I see them a lot at TJ Maxx at very low cost!)
- Melissa and Doug Dress Up: Use the dress up "Joey" version to work on those difficult "who" questions.
