NORWOOD HIGH SCHOOL PTO UPDATE

APRIL 2025

NHS PTO Meeting Minutes March 11, 2025 @ 6:30 PM

Present: Lexa Sullivan, president, Christine Banks, vice president, Vicky D’Annunzio, secretary, Dr. Hugh Galligan, principal, Sarah Cullen, treasurer, Karen Guarin, Mollie Caravello, Sam Bradley, Denise Begley

Minutes from February are approved unanimously

Principal’s report by Dr. Galligan

Dr. Galligan is taking a role in Central Administration.  A search for a new principal will be conducted soon.

The course selection process is underway.  

Parent-teacher conferences feedback.  The new system has pros and cons.  A con was that signing up was cumbersome.  One pro is that the parent participation was higher and more diverse.  

Treasurer’s report by Sarah Cullen

Outgoing: Bistro gift card with a proflit of $155, $53 in dues and $25 from Benevity, See’s Candy was $136.26.

$500 from Craft Affair

Total balance: $4,850.00

Honor’s banquet by Dr. Galligan

Contract was signed with the Sheraton but what they are covering is not confirmed, specifically if Juniors and Seniors will be covered.  $500 deposit is needed.

Scholarships report by Christine Banks

We reviewed the change in questions and determined minimum and maximum number of words for the essays.

Date for submission for the PTO and CMS scholarship is May 1.

Add the question about attending CMS.

2025 Graduation lawn signs by Lexa Sullivan

Signs can be personalized.

Vote to charge $25 per sign.  It passed unanimously.

We will upcycle the graduation signs from 2024.

Fundraising by Christine Banks

  • See’s Candy Easter sale is on.
  • One stop shopping includes See’s Candy and Socks, which  has made $50.
  • Parking spot raffle - We will send out notice in May and hold the raffle in June.  
  • Lexa will contact Blue Hills to see if they can supply flowers.

There’s a grant request for Dedham Saving’s bank.

Lexa requested a gift card from Wegman’s for teacher appreciation week.  We will also request gift cards from other supermarkets like Big Y and Aldi’s.  

Caring Hearts/Teacher Appreciation by Lexa and Christine

Lexa will work on the Caring Hearts form and will send it out next week.

We need to find a sponsor for the Caring Hearts

We will try to find new winners.  The number of winners TBD.

Christine asked if Blue Hills could provide desserts for the Caring Heart celebration.  We will check with Cheffin & Eetinn’ in downtown Norwood to check prices.
