Hello Mustang families,
The 2015-2016 school year has come to a close. All of the students and teachers feel like this wonderful year went by very, very fast. While originally designed to help out with harvest during our agrarian days, the summer vacation is a fantastic opportunity to rest and recharge our batteries.
I have tried to outline important information for students and families during the summer months. Final grades for the 2015-2016 school year will be published and viewable to parents on Wednesday June 22nd. Please take the opportunity to familiarize yourself with this information as we wrap up the school year.
Norwood High Summer Academy
The Norwood Summer Academy Program is tuition driven, and all courses are offered subject to adequate funding and enrollment, so please be sure to register early! Please note that our Summer Academy will run for a total of 19 days: Monday through Thursday, from July 5th through Thursday August 4th at noon. No Summer School on Fridays.
In order to register for a Summer Academy course, you must complete the PDF form that can be downloaded via the link below. Please note that this PDF file has three pages, and you must also complete pages 2 and 3 of the form (the Medical Forms) in order to be considered fully registered. Visit /curriculum/How-to-Register for more details.
Summer Reading Requirements
Our librarians, reading teachers, and English teachers have carefully provided your child with a variety of options for what books they can read and how they can respond to a selected book. They have worked hard to pick books that your child can enjoy. Please take the time to read and understand the summer reading requirements and assignments for your child’s September grade level, found on the accompanying web pages in the navigation bar to the left and on your school’s website, so you can assist your son or daughter in completing this important requirement. Please visit /curriculum/Summer-Reading for more details.
Social Studies Summer Work
The Social Studies department has required summer work in all grade 9, 10, and AP Classes as well as the Senior Civics Elective. Students should visit the summer work page, which can be found on the Norwood High School website here; https://sites.google.com/site/nhshistorysummerreading/home
Visual Arts AP Studio Art Summer Work
Any student who plans to take AP Studio Art in the fall should have received a summer work packet from his/her teacher. If your son or daughter did not receive this packet, please contact his/her teacher.

Guidance News
Draft 2016-2017 Schedules – On Wednesday, June 22nd, a draft of student schedules will be viewable on iPass. Students and parents will be able to see the sections they are enrolled in, not room numbers or teacher names. Please keep in mind that there will be continued maintenance on the schedule throughout the summer, and the schedule you see may change. Guidance staff will be available from June 22nd – June 24th to answer questions about unmet course requests and scheduling conflicts.
Next Steps for Rising Seniors - All juniors have recently attended Junior Seminar during one of their study blocks. In this seminar, guidance counselors provided an overview of next steps in the college/career planning process. To access important information involving this process, please click on the following link: /nhs/guidance/Post-Secondary-Planning
Work Permits
Work permits are required of all students ages 14 through 17. Should a student secure a job during the summer, a guidance counselor will be available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 8:00-12:00 to complete a work permit. The student will need to bring the work permit application completely filled out. The first two pages are to be filled out by the employer. The third page requires a doctor’s signature if the student is 14 or 15 years of age. The parent/guardian also signs on the third page, as well as the student. Work permit applications can be found at: /nhs/guidance/files/documents/work_permit_application.pdf or can be picked up at the high school. If the minor is not a student of Norwood High School and has never attended Norwood Public Schools, then a birth certificate or passport is required.
