The School Committee and the District have been researching school start times, health, well being, and academics of all students preK-12th grade since spring 2017. A district-wide Task Force has been working comprehensively on this initiative since 2018. The Task Force will be presenting to the School Committee on January 13, 2021 with recommendations on school start times. Monday sessions are primarily for issues facing BIPOC (black, indigenous and people of color) parents. As parents we often place our own needs behind those of our children. Please consider taking advantage of an hour for yourself that will let you know you are not alone, connect with other parents and hopefully lift your spirits.

Individuals should stay within their household: For a lower-risk celebration, people should limit in-person holiday gatherings to only people they live with or limit the gathering to a small group of individuals with whom they are regularly in contact. Avoid travel: Anyone considering travel should review and abide by Massachusetts travel orders, and people who want to travel to another state that is not a lower-risk state should be aware of the quarantine requirements involved with such travel.

Russell Johnston, Senior Associate Commission and State Director of Special Education, has provided an important update from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regarding support for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as we return to school. If you have any questions, please contact your students special education liaison or building principal.

School Reopening Update 5

The Norwood Public Schools is holding the final no contact drive-thru Chromebook deployments for incoming grade six and incoming grade nine students at Norwood High School on September 3rd and September 9th. This is the final deployment. If you can't attend, your child will need to wait until their first in-person day of school to get their Chromebook. This deployment is for all incoming sixth and ninth grade students. Students newly enrolled in grades 7, 8, 10, 11, and 12 are also eligible for this deployment. We will be collecting the school Chromebooks you currently have. You must sign up for a date and time slot in order to receive your Chromebook.
