The Intolerable Acts

Boston Port Act An act to discontinue, in such manner, and for or such time as are therein mentioned, the landing and discharging, lading or shipping, of goods, wares, and merchandise, at the town, and within the harbour, of Boston, in the province of Massachusetts Bay, in North America.
Massachusetts Government Act An Act for the better regulating the government of the province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England.
Administration of Justice Act An act for the impartial administration of justice in the case of persons questioned for any acts done by them in the execution of the law, or for the suppression of riots and tumults, in the province of the Massachusetts Bay, in New England.
Quebec Act An Act for making effectual Provision for the Government of the Province of Quebec in North America.

One of the historic events leading to the Independence of America was the introduction of the Intolerable Acts. This article explains how the colonists had upset Parliament and what Parliament did in retaliation. It describes the Coercive Acts, otherwise known as the Intolerable Acts and the specific actions that were taken to punish the colonists. An excerpt of a letter from Samuel Adams in included along with details of the Quebec Act. A chart of the Intolerable Acts contains a description of each.

Crispus Attucks

Although it has been debated whether or not Crispus Attucks was a Revolutionary hero or a man behaving badly, one thing that is agreed upon is that Crispus Attucks was the first casualty of the American Revolution. This resource provides you with John Adams' quotes from the soldiers' murder trial regarding Crispus Attucks, a description of Attucks written by his slave owner, and Attucks' occupation that put him into close contact with British soldiers. A brief description of the Boston Massacre is also provided along with John Adams' role in the soldiers' trial.

Bostonians and British sentries guarding the Boston Customs House had a conflict on March 5, 1770, which became known as the Boston Massacre. Soldiers shot into the crowd after one of them was struck by a snowball, in spite of orders to not fire. Crispus Attucks, an escaped slave, risked his freedom to lead the attack on the soldiers. He was one of the men who died in the conflict, and became a symbol of patriotism.
