Why Obama's Afghan War Is Different 
Four thousand Marines fought 650 Afghan soldiers during the first major wartime offensive of Obama's presidency. Previous small-scale fights have been ineffective in eliminating insurgents. Meanwhile, U.S. and NATO forces are talking to elders and tribal leaders to work together to help civilians. Combat posts are being set up in villages. Explore the risks of such actions and the importance of avoiding collateral damage. The new strategy introduced by Obama involves increasing the numbers of soldiers in Afghanistan so they can hold territories after they defeat the insurgents.
