Why Obama's Afghan War Is Different 
Four thousand Marines fought 650 Afghan soldiers during the first major wartime offensive of Obama's presidency. Previous small-scale fights have been ineffective in eliminating insurgents. Meanwhile, U.S. and NATO forces are talking to elders and tribal leaders to work together to help civilians. Combat posts are being set up in villages.
